West Lynde (north-northwest 1) is a neighbourhood of Whitby, in the Greater Toronto Area. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 4,947 living in private households. 47.1% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 55.2% across the Greater Toronto Area as a whole; the largest single group was South Asian at 14.1%. 51.4% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 1.5% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 32.7% of the population, compared with 45.1% citywide. Median household income before tax was $121,000 in 2020, compared with $199,000 for the Greater Toronto Area. 14.8% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 1.11 km², giving a population density of 4,475 people per square kilometre (the Greater Toronto Area averages about 920).
