Mount Joy (east-northeast) is a neighbourhood of Markham, in the Greater Toronto Area. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 5,883 living in private households. 48.6% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 55.2% across the Greater Toronto Area as a whole; the largest single group was Chinese at 25.4%. 51.0% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 0.5% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 37.5% of the population, compared with 45.1% citywide. Median household income before tax was $140,000 in 2020, compared with $199,000 for the Greater Toronto Area. 4.6% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 1.68 km², giving a population density of 3,509 people per square kilometre (the Greater Toronto Area averages about 920).
