Cornell (east-northeast) is a neighbourhood of Markham, in the Greater Toronto Area. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 11,590 living in private households. 78.4% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 55.2% across the Greater Toronto Area as a whole; the largest single group was Chinese at 35.3%. 21.0% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 0.6% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 49.8% of the population, compared with 45.1% citywide. Median household income before tax was $117,000 in 2020, compared with $199,000 for the Greater Toronto Area. 18.3% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 2.48 km², giving a population density of 4,667 people per square kilometre (the Greater Toronto Area averages about 920).
