West Lynde (west-southwest 2) is a neighbourhood of Whitby, in the Greater Toronto Area. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 8,108 living in private households. 34.3% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 55.2% across the Greater Toronto Area as a whole; the largest single group was South Asian at 14.2%. 63.3% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 2.4% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 26.0% of the population, compared with 45.1% citywide. Median household income before tax was $133,000 in 2020, compared with $199,000 for the Greater Toronto Area. 14.8% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 5.95 km², giving a population density of 1,363 people per square kilometre (the Greater Toronto Area averages about 920).
