West Lynde (south) is a neighbourhood of Whitby, in the Greater Toronto Area. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 2,787 living in private households. 22.6% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 55.2% across the Greater Toronto Area as a whole; the largest single group was Black at 8.6%. 74.8% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 2.7% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 21.5% of the population, compared with 45.1% citywide. Median household income before tax was $74,000 in 2020, compared with $199,000 for the Greater Toronto Area. 50.2% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 1.16 km², giving a population density of 2,400 people per square kilometre (the Greater Toronto Area averages about 920).
