West Lynde (south-southeast 1) is a neighbourhood of Whitby, in the Greater Toronto Area. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 7,312 living in private households. 26.1% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 55.2% across the Greater Toronto Area as a whole; the largest single group was South Asian at 7.9%. 73.0% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 0.9% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 27.3% of the population, compared with 45.1% citywide. Median household income before tax was $112,000 in 2020, compared with $199,000 for the Greater Toronto Area. 20.8% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 17.29 km², giving a population density of 423 people per square kilometre (the Greater Toronto Area averages about 920).
