Vanier (north-northwest) is a neighbourhood of Oshawa, in the Greater Toronto Area. At the 2021 Census of Canada it had a population of 4,172 living in private households. 21.6% of residents identified as members of a racialized (visible minority) group, against 55.2% across the Greater Toronto Area as a whole; the largest single group was Black at 6.6%. 73.9% were Caucasian (not a visible minority, excluding Indigenous identity), and 4.4% reported Indigenous identity. Immigrants made up 17.8% of the population, compared with 45.1% citywide. Median household income before tax was $54,800 in 2020, compared with $199,000 for the Greater Toronto Area. 70.4% of households rented rather than owned. The neighbourhood covers 1.57 km², giving a population density of 2,658 people per square kilometre (the Greater Toronto Area averages about 920).
